America's Region Skills Competition

The America’s Region Skills Competition serves as a collaborative effort for the company to develop expertise and strategies among Manufacturing employees. Daikin has been conducting these competitions for over 20 years in Japan, and DTTP has once again been selected to host the event and contribute to a tradition here in the Western Hemisphere.
 

Significance of the Competition

From a personal growth perspective, the Skills Competition serves to raise employee morale while increasing excitement, retention and awareness of career path options. The event also provides networking and skill-sharing opportunities. The Competition creates a channel to recognize, energize and elevate future generations through the company ranks. This is just one great example of Daikin's People Centered Management philosophy, where we take care of our employees, who in turn take care of our customers.
Daikin goes above and beyond in its actions, with its intent on growing and developing employees. We hold a strong commitment to training and retention of a skilled workforce that produces high quality products for its customers. Daikin heavily supports skill transfer in the Dojos and the competitions because increasing employee skill level across the globe is a strategic market advantage.
 

Who will be Competing?

Each contestant has worked extremely hard to compete at the regional level. Trainers and managers challenged their best employees to qualify on a local level before coming here to compete in this regional event. You will see Daikin's best of the best in this competition.
Following the competition, our 2023 champions will become part of Daikin's history-books and will join the ranks of all past Skills Competition winning alumni. In addition, each winner will be presented with an official 2023 Skills Completion medal which has been meticulously crafted, designed to represent the spirit of the competition and reflect the collaborative nature of the team at DTTP. We hope that you will display them proudly!
 

The Local Skills Virtual Knowledge Test

The Virtual Skills Knowledge Test was a new addition to the Local Skills Competition in 2021 and was open to employees throughout the organization. Only brazers were eligible to advance out beyond the first round and move on to compete in the Local Skills Competition, the preamble to the Regional Skills Competition.
 

What to Expect During the Competition

Categories include: Aluminum and Copper Brazing, Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance, Tool & Die, and new this year, Leak Testing.
  • The techniques performed by the contestants reflect the requirements of their daily functions within each of the disciplines and will be evaluated in front of a panel of judges.
  • At the conclusion of the timed events, judges will have an opportunity to analyze the finished pieces for accuracy and precision.
  • The winners will be determined by their ability to complete their tasks within the parameters of safety, quality and speed.
     

Networking

This week also provides a great opportunity for you to network with your peers, as there will be time after each day to socialize, as well as an opportunity to work together at the group team building event. Don't forget to exchange contact info!
 

Beyond the Competition

When you return to your facility, we encourage you to inspire your fellow co-workers to compete at next year’s event by honing their skills and reaffirming their commitment to producing the best quality product possible. As an experienced participant in the competition, any coaching or mentoring advice you share with them could ultimately prove invaluable in their career progression.
And, since you have been spending an entire week with like-minded coworkers from various locations throughout the region, this is also a chance to form long-lasting networking bonds and support one another as you continue your careers here at Daikin. Perhaps we will even see some of you back at future competitions as judges!
